Book 'In Time Comes the Opossum'

When opossums are startled, they freeze like a statue. Unfortunately, Alfred is an exceptionally skittish opossum. This is quite inconvenient, especially when you're trying to make new friends. Armadillos are very similar: at the slightest fright, they curl up into a ball.

And so it takes quite a while before Alfred and Sofia the armadillo get closer. But with a lot of patience on both sides, it finally works out. And lo and behold, there are a whole host of other curious and timid animals who want to join the new gang!
